Grammar: Hold

The children in class hold hands when they walk outside to go to someplace away from the school, like a museum. They also hold hands for some kinds of sports in gym class. When they run, they have to run at the same pace because of this. One child sometimes holds another child's arm because it is easier. The staff discuss this and other policies when they hold meetings once a week.

In one of the meetings, one teacher, who holds the position of monitoring child safety, mentioned that some children hold their breath during recess as a kind of competition. They sometimes hold their breath too long, and fall over.

That teacher thought they should hold a special hearing about changing school policies and rules to prevent this competition.

'The parents hold us accountable for the children's safety and this is not safe,' she explained. The other teachers agreed.
