Mathilda and Bruno were fighting. They could never get along. If one got a toy, the other wanted it. First they would take the toy from the other person. Then they would run to get away before the other could hit. After a few minutes, mother would get in the fight and end it. When mother got involved it was bad. But when father got involved it was really serious. “You just don’t get it, do you?” he would say to them, “Fighting is against the rules in this house.” After that they had to go to separate rooms. Then they would get on with some new activity, or sometimes they would ask to go outside. If they got out, they would run to the window where the other was sitting and make faces through the window. Their parents wondered if they would ever get over this behaviour.
