Randolph was upset. He tried to help a lady on the way to work. He meant nothing bad. He only wanted to help by giving her his seat on the train as they rode. But she looked upset when he offered it. He even said to her, “Please have a seat.” She said, “What do you mean? Are you trying to tell me that I am old?” “No, I only meant to help. I thought you might like it. I thought it was good manners. I didn’t mean to insult you.” “Well, help someone who needs help. I don’t need help.” And she moved to another place on the train, farther away from him. Randolph was upset because he only meant to help, and instead the lady thought he meant to insult her. “The world is really changing,” he thought to himself.
