Episode Notes
Good morning.
Good morning. How are you today?
I am fine. What are you holding in your hand right now?
I've got some tape.
Why Why do you have tape in your hand?
Well, you know, I was playing with my um uh camera to do this webcast. E, and I I couldn't get the camera just right, so I pulled out my tape.
Yeah.
To hold it in place.
Yeah.
And I thought This is great, but I don't like it because I have cleaned up so many tape stains around my school. You wouldn't believe it.
Okay.
If Okay, you do. You see this wall behind me?
I believe it.
Yes. You're lovely.
The wall behind me is wall.
The rainbow is a bed sheet. I painted on the bed sheet and it's hanging in front of the wall.
Just give me
because I can't paint on the wall. Wow.
Just giving away your secrets. Hey, paint on a bed sheet. All right.
Yeah, this is a big secret. And behind that wall, behind that bed sheet, there's a tape stained wall. It's full of tape stains.
Why?
And I couldn't clean it.
Why is it full of tape stains?
So, I want to find a way to put things on walls
and take them off easily without tacks.
What's wrong with the tack?
Hey, Edward.
Yeah.
What's that?
What's wrong with the tack? back leaves holes
if you take them out.
Well, I don't put things up on walls to leave them forever.
Okay, sounds like weak planning.
No, it sounds like seasons. I want to put up Christmas and then Halloween and then I want to put up autumn decorations.
All right, ask me what I have up at my school.
Okay, what do you have up at your school?
Cork. all over the wall,
one whole wall, cork.
And is that okay with the people that are renting the building to you?
When we move out someday, we will have to pay to redo the wall. But we do that whether there were holes in it, whether it's faded from 20 years of renting, we we accept that at the end, we will have to pay that. But we don't have any plan to move. We've been there 18 years in the same and uh our landlords love us and we love them. So, but when we eventually we'll move out, we'll have to pay to replace wallpaper or whatever is needed. But that would be the same case whether it's tape tape marks. You're going to have to replace the tape fix that somehow.
Okay. No. Uh I'm going to interrupt you. I love this idea and I I agree with everything you said. I I also know I will have to pay that money when we move out
and I've accepted that.
Yeah.
So, I've got this rough Um, wallpaper.
Yeah.
Did you just stick the cork on the wallpaper?
I
like everything in Japan is wallpaper.
I glued it on. Glue.
Glue.
White wood glue. Standard wood glue.
Where did you get the cork?
At a at a store.
Got it at a home center. At a home center.
Okay. Like I I don't know how to buy it or where which center it is.
But the the key with cork is cork's rather expensive.
Um
I thought so.
It's not it's not bank breaking expensive, but typically people buy really thin cork.
Okay.
And then you're still pushing the tax into the wall behind the cork and it's it's hard. If the wall is hard, it's hard.
So the cork I got is very thick.
Good. Yes.
Um so it's nice and easy to push in, easy to pull out. Um and we use that for all of our notifications. and and and uh posters and seasonal things.
And then the other thing I have is we have two rooms.
Okay.
Both rooms have whiteboards, you know, big classroom whiteboards,
but one room is not a classroom. It's just a it's our library space and and uh little study area.
Okay. So,
we have a big whiteboard on the wall there that we don't use as a whiteboard. But magnets stick to it, so we can post things up on there using magnets.
Okay. Okay.
Likewise, our front door is is I guess steel, so it's magnetic. So, we can stick things on the front door with magnets as well.
Okay.
And then another wall, small wall space. I have one of those hanging things, you know, with pockets, you know?
Right. Right. Right.
Like made of fabric, which a student gave us. a a souvenir from Bolivia.
Oh, nice.
So, that's got some pockets. So, we can put things in there like uh uh flyers or or lo like like other businesses sometimes put their flyers. Our students have businesses, they put their flyers in there, then people can take them out.
But,
okay. Okay.
Back to your initial problem of tape marks on the wall,
right?
Uh I have no suggestion, but if you've used the wrong tape, and I don't mean that, but if the tape is the wrong tape or was on there for too long or was damaged by heat or the sun, then it's going to be hard to get off.
Okay. Okay.
So, the answer is what we used to call blue.
Blu-tack.
Yes. Yes. I've heard of it.
It's like It's like clay that's sticky and then But when you pull it this way, it it stretches and pops off the wall.
It's like chewing gum.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And we called it Blu-Tack back home in Canada, but I don't know what called here. Of course.
Yeah.
I' I've heard people trying to buy it, but I haven't seen it in Japan.
Well, go clean your walls and get some Blu-Teack.
Good. I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna get some cork.
Excellent idea. And I'm going to go make some more.
Thank you very much.
Okay. Bye. Bye.
See you later.
