Episode Notes

Good morning Les.

How are you doing? I'm doing pretty good.

How are you? I'm doing just fine, thank you.

What's going on? What's new? Well, you know, last night I was talking with the students.

And uh he's getting married.

Oh yeah.

Yeah, so he said this weekend he has to go to, uh, let's see, what did he say, Kyoto, he has to go to Kyoto.

And I kind of missed what he said, and he said, I'm not looking forward to it.

It was with in connection to his wedding.

Right.

And then I thought, wait a minute, you mean you, you're not excited about the wedding? And he said, no, no, no, no, I'm not, this isn't the wedding.

He said, we're planning the wedding.

Right.

OK.

And I thought, OK, I think I understand.

The planning is a, is a hard work for you, right? And he said, That's right, Les.

That's right.

And I said, Well, why is it hard? And he said, Because I don't wanna say the wrong thing with my wife.

OK.

Yeah, yeah, so then it made me think about my, my wedding, and my wedding was extremely simple.

I was pretty lucky because my wife likes to take control.

She likes to make things happen.

So I just let her plan.

Yeah, you're fine with that, hey? I'm totally fine with that.

Yeah.

What about you? Yeah, in our case, um, I'm not, I enjoy planning things in general, but the fun part was going to bridal fairs, as they're called, or or, so, you know, we visited several different hotels.

OK, yes.

And I'm not, I'm not into fashion.

I don't care much about dresses and things.

I don't even care that much about the location, but the nice thing is you always get to test the food.

Ah yes.

So that's right.

Yeah, so basically, we went to 3 or 4 really, really fancy hotels and got to have, you know, beautifully prepared French food, Italian food, traditional Japanese food.

Um, desserts, like you wouldn't believe, cause they're they're showing you all the different options you can have.

OK, yes, yes.

First time I ever had baked Alaskan was at a bridal fair.

Now, when you say bridal fair, my image is that there's lots of people there.

Um, so, case by case depends on the season, I think, or, or how busy a place is, but Typically we had like, I don't know, an agent or a guide, a wedding planner who would take us around.

OK, yes, so it's just the, just the two of us, plus one hotel staff who who guides us, shows us the different rooms and stuff.

So, and there are other couples.

Um, doing the same thing, but it's just you, yeah, it's just you and, and the a planner or whatever they're called, um.

One place we went to.

Let us try on uh tuxedos and wedding dresses and take photos, and they actually gave us the photos, which was kind of fun.

Nice.

Um, But I'll tell you just, I'll tell you the.

We ended up getting married in a small wedding restaurant, not a hotel.

OK, yes.

Um, it was French style.

It was in the woods.

It was called a garden wedding.

Uh, yes, yes, and that it was quite beautiful and we only had 20 people at our wedding, so it was small and and not hard to organize.

Right, um, yeah.

The best part of this was we're visiting every weekend we're visiting different locations and and one weekend I met a new friend who he just moved here from the US, no, from Australia.

And I told him I'd show him around the city.

I'd show him over to the city.

So we went for a bike ride, we went around, and while we're riding around, he and I, I realized we were right near one of the locations we wanted to check out.

And they have a for that weekend.

So we go in and and we talk to the staff, we're we're here to look at the location and we're walking around for a few minutes and one of the staff comes over to us timidly and says, um, excuse me, but we don't offer gay weddings at our location.

Assuming that that we are, and I said, oh no, no, no, that's, you know, my wife is is uh busy today and I'm just showing my friend around.

So no, that's, that's not the case, but that was quite amusing.

But anyway, um, I need to grab the kettle, it's about to boil, so we'll talk later.

OK, that sounds good.

Talk to you later.

Bye bye.

See you.
