Hi, welcome to the Les Perras podcast today.
This is episode 272 and I'm going to talk about blowfish, blowfish.
Those are the fish that when they're in danger they puff themselves up.
They've typically got spines and barbs on their body.
So any fish that tries to eat them would experience extreme pain, trying to swallow them.
They get stuck in the throat, so most fish don't eat them.
They avoid them.
People on the other hand, love to eat them, especially in Japan.
The problem is they don't only blow their bodies up and they have the spines, but they also have a horrible poison in them.
It's deadly.
It can kill you quickly.
If you cut the fish wrong, the poison will come out of that small organ in the body that contains the poison and it can get all over the food and the whole dinner is spoiled.
You have to throw it away because this poison really kills you quite fast.
They have special chefs in Japan who are licensed to remove that section of the fish and prepare the fish for dinner that makes it quite a bit more expensive because you're dealing with people's lives.
And the irony is people love blowfish in Japan.
They'll pay a lot of money for it.
I've had it.
Well, to be honest, it didn't taste like much.
It was a very delicate flavor and I can take it or leave it.
I, I enjoy it.
It's fine, but I certainly wouldn't want to pay a lot of money for it.
But to each his own, everybody has their taste.
Would you eat blowfish if you had a chance? You know, it's very dangerous.
It can kill you if the chef makes a mistake.
And that happens once in a while.
Believe it or not, talk to your friends, talk to your family, ask them if they would eat blowfish if they had a chance.
Thanks for listening to the Les Perras podcast.
