Castles.

Have you ever been to a castle? I'm one of the lucky few who can say I have been to a castle.

Well, since I come from Canada, I say lucky few because honestly, I think many Canadians have never been to a castle.

I have the sort of benefit of living in Japan and there's lots of castles in Japan.

There's a castle that's about 20 minutes away from my house right now.

Uh, Osaka Castle.

Now, that's not a great example because it was rebuilt and it's not built in the classic style.

It was sort of built out of concrete, but it still is a replica of the original castle.

And you can see real castles in Japan.

Now, I don't want to get into all the specialized terms for castles in English.

There's lots of special words for castles like Don John and portcullis and bastion.

But I don't want to get into that today.

Let's just say castles are cool.

I haven't been to any castles in Europe because I really haven't been to Europe, but I've seen lots of pictures of them and I've drawn lots of castles because personally I think they're really cool.

My dad said he always wanted to sleep in a castle and today you can sleep in a castle.

They've been converted into hotels in some cases.

On the other hand, some of the castles that you can sleep in, they don't really look like castles to me, they look like mansions, really elaborate houses.

I, when I get a castle in my mind, the image is big rock walls really thick and really tall and they're designed to keep people out and that's the coolest thing.

I don't think that it would be really comfortable living in a castle.

Probably in the winter.

They're freezing cold and the ventilation is not very good and they're probably damp as well and almost certainly dark.

They might have a little bit of danger from the electrical wires because they've been added on after construction hundreds of years after.

But if you could make a castle comfortable, that would be probably the best.

Tell me.

Have you ever been to a castle? And which castle would you like to visit in the future?
