"Clocks.
Where is the clock in your house? Which clocks do you use? Now? Today as I talk about clocks, I'm going to include watches as clocks because I'm generally thinking about time pieces the way that we can tell what time it is.
There's a clock on my smartphone, there is a clock in each of my classrooms and I have two or three clocks in my living room at home.
I really like to know the time.
My wife likes to know the time, but she also likes to set the time on the clock deliberately wrong so that she never falls too late.
If she thinks it's earlier than it really is, then she has to rush a little bit far faster to meet the time deadline that she has in her mind.
How about you? Where are your clocks? Do you have clocks in every room of the house? I'd like to have a clock in every room of the house.
Or are you more a watch person? You carry your watch around or are you more modern in that you, you check the time with your smartphone? I don't like checking the time with my smartphone because that means I have to carry it around with me everywhere, which is kind of a pain.
Smartphones are ok.
But watches and clocks are a little bit lighter and easier if they're set correctly.
Which is another thing, there's different kinds of clocks.
I was in elementary school when I first learned about the sun dial.
That's a clock that tells the time by the position of the sun.
Of course, it doesn't work very well on rainy days.
But you can generally know the, the time if it's sunny and you can also know the direction, which, which way is north and which way is south using a sun dial.
There's all sorts of clocks out there.
Nowadays, we have electronic clocks but in the old days they had, uh, I don't know what you call it.
Maybe just a mechanical clock and those were pretty good, but they had different ways of running out of energy to keep them moving.
Some of them had a pendulum.
Some of them, you had to wind it up with a spring.
Even myself.
I once tried to make a paper clock.
Clocks are fascinating pieces of technology.
Think about the clocks in your life."
