Hanukkah.
Do you know this festival? I can say I've heard the word for a long time and I've known about it, but no, I haven't known about it.
I knew almost nothing about Hanukkah.
In fact, I wasn't even sure what kind of holiday or festival or what religion it was connected to.
I didn't know a lot of people who were Jewish when I grew up.
Maybe I knew them, but I didn't know they were Jewish and I didn't know much about this holiday.
It's a Jewish holiday that commemorates taking back a temple a long time ago when uh the Jewish people were invaded by another country.
Very simply I won't get into the details because it's kind of complex anyway, it happens around Christmas time every year.
But interestingly enough, it's not the most sacred holiday for the Jewish people, I guess.
Um, in North America, Christmas sort of took off maybe 100, 100 years ago and became much more popular and very, very important.
And some of the Jewish people, especially Children at school might have felt left out.
And so they started to emphasize the importance of the Hanukkah holiday of a festival and that made people feel like they had their own special time at the same time when everybody else is enjoying their Christian holiday of Christmas.
Of course, there are other takes on this.
Uh And since I don't know much, I, I did a little research on the internet just now.
Anyway, Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday, uh tradition, a festival.
And it happens every year around Christmas time, around Christmas time, but not exactly then.
And it involves playing games and lighting candles every night for eight nights and also eating special foods.
So it sounds pretty much like a festival as, as we know festivals.
